PhD​ students:

Prospective PhD students for Fall 2026 should apply to CEE using the U-M online application system and indicate “Materials” for Civil Engineering or “Sustainable Energy Systems” for Environmental Engineering and me as a potential advisor in their applications by the deadline, December 15th. Please visit here for more application procedures.

For Fall 2026, we anticipate admitting at least one fully-funded PhD student (internal funding) for topics related to electrolysis, cement, robotics, or 3D printing.

​

Externally-funded PhD students in relevant areas are always welcome to reach out via email and clarify the funding sources. 

​

Domestic applicants to our PhD programs will have their application fee automatically waived.

​

Master students:

Research opportunities for current master's students at U-M (including but not limited to CEE students) are available on a regular basis (independent study credit via CEE 950, volunteering, or funded summer research). 

​

Prospective Master's students should complete their applications by the deadline, January 15th. Master’s applications received by January 3 are guaranteed consideration for internal fellowships.

Domestic applicants to our Masters programs will have their application fee automatically waived.

Undergraduate students:

Please contact us with your CV/resume. Research opportunities at U-M are available on a regular basis (independent study credit via CEE 490.091, volunteering, or funded summer research including Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering (SURE).

Postdoctoral scholars:

A 2-year Schmidt AI in Science postdoctoral fellowship is available to compete (with the possibility to extend to up to five years by the PI). Please contact us for the application. Application deadline November 30, 2025.

 

Externally-funded postdocs are also always welcome to reach out by emails.

Research assistant:

Please contact us with your CV. RAs with outstanding performance, after training, will be recommended to apply for our PhD programs and elsewhere. RA positions are only open to applicants without a PhD degree.
